Scott enjoys spending time at home, watching his favorite TV shows, and has a keen interest in woodworking. However, he requires assistance from someone with sight to take measurements. Scott’s low vision deteriorated over the years until he became completely blind in 2017. As his vision declined, it became increasingly difficult for him to navigate his surroundings.
When he would venture out to go shopping, Scott would need his girlfriend to help him find a restroom and inspect the toilet to make sure it was clean. Looking for more independence, Scott talked to an Envision representative who recommended that he look into purchasing Envision Glasses. These AI-powered smart glasses translate visual information into speech, reading that information to the person wearing the glasses.
While the cost of Envision Glasses was not within Scott’s budget, the Envision representative encouraged him to apply for a Mini-Loan from PATF. A sale on the Envision Glasses was a couple of weeks from ending when Scott applied for the loan, prompting the PATF team to help Scott receive the loan before the sale ended. Within a couple of weeks, he was approved for a 0% interest, zero-fee loan with monthly payments Scott could afford.
“The Envision Glasses have been a game-changer for me. They’ve increased my independence by making it easier to read and find objects, such as doors or chairs, especially when I’m out and about. They describe my surroundings, read my mail and food menus, and give me visual details of a scene on TV,” Scott said.
Living with his girlfriend, Scott has connected the Envision Glasses to his girlfriend’s cellphone. This allows him to use the glasses for a video call whenever she is in another room in the house, and he needs her assistance. With this video call feature, whatever Scott is looking at, his girlfriend can see it on her phone and provide him with relevant details. After the glasses describe a scene to Scott, he can ask the glasses questions about the scene. For example, if he asks, “Is there a bench nearby?”, the glasses will give him an answer. If there is a bench nearby, the glasses will tell him where it is.
Scott’s home features smart home technology. He and his girlfriend have a Ring video doorbell, along with a smart thermostat that can be adjusted through a mobile app. Instead of shouting throughout the house to communicate, the couple uses smart speakers as an intercom system.
