Colleen

Colleen has ALS, which affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to a loss of muscle control. She received her diagnosis in 2022. Previously, Colleen was very athletic, but when she became sick, her left foot started to drag, and eventually she lost her ability to walk. With her mobility severely limited, Colleen began using a chair lift, but transferring from her wheelchair to the chair lift was challenging. Seeking a safer option, she looked into getting an inclined platform lift, which carries a wheelchair user over an existing staircase on a level platform.

Colleen used a PATF Mini-Loan to purchase an inclined platform lift. She was pleasantly surprised by how quickly PATF responded to her loan application. “My journey before finding PATF was daunting, embarrassing, and degrading because of the interest rates from other loan opportunities, which I found to be too high,” she said.

Having this assistive technology device has changed Colleen’s life dramatically. With the lift, Colleen explained, “I can navigate safely from floor to floor, enhancing my mobility at home, providing peace of mind for myself, my loved ones, and my caregiver. It’s made such a difference in my life.”
