Two PATF staff recently participated in a training session and received certification to work as Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) tax return preparers for low-income individuals. The VITA Program generally offers free tax help to people who make $51,000 or less and need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.  Volunteers can inform taxpayers about special tax credits for which they may qualify such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled. VITA sites are generally located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient locations. The program makes it possible for taxpayers to have their returns prepared honestly, accurately, and electronically filed, at no cost.

Where can you receive VITA services? There are thousands of VITA sites located across the country. You can contact PATF at 888-744-1938 to find a site near you or use the VITA Locator Tool.
